Scott McFarland, a native of Mount Desert Island, returned to MDI after college to start his 35-year career in education, both as a classroom teacher and for the last 14 years of this span, as the principal of the nationally recognized Mount Desert Elementary School in Northeast Harbor.  As an educator Scott has earned the friendship, trust and respect of generations of MDI families and as a private yacht captain for 32 years, Scott is well known by the summer community as well. Driven by a strong belief in community, Scott continues to serve on the board of a variety of local community organizations that play a key role towards this end. In his spare time Scott is an avid golfer, loves to spend time on the waters of MDI and work his property in Pretty Marsh. Scott was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive; he responded immediately to every call, text, and email we ever sent him. If he didn't respond within a few minutes, he would actually apologize for not getting back to us sooner! We came to appreciate how respectful Scott was of our time and property; he would confirm well in advance and arrive early to every appointment and walk through the house before and after each showing to make sure that lights were on/ off and everything was as we left it. After each showing, Scott called us immediately with feedback and followed up a few days later with each prospective buyer's broker.

Thanks to Scott, we always had a steady stream of showings and interested buyers. When we received our first offer, it was lower than expected. Scott was understanding and did not pressure us to accept a price below our comfort level. He negotiated well on our behalf and represented our position exactly as we requested. When we received our final offer, Scott recommended that we negotiate a later closing date to give us time to pack and find a new home; at the time we didn't think it was necessary, but we were grateful after-the-fact that we listened to him.

Scott was literally with us to the end of the sale. On the day we moved and the buyers did their walk-through, Scott arrived an hour before the walk-through and, despite our protests, helped us load items into our truck, sweep out our basement and garage, and take away our trash! He then stayed after we left to ensure the buyers had no last-minute problems or issues.
